WoW Inscription Guide
I made this Inscription guide to explain the basics about this profession. Inscription is a new profession which was introduced in Wrath of the Lich King. Inscribers create Glyphs which are enhancements to an individual's spells or abilities, Inscribes can also make Scrolls and items you can equip in your off-hand.
Inscription use herbs as main materials. When you learn Inscription, you will get a skill called Milling, which you can use to produce pigments from herbs similar like prospecting for Jewelcrafters. You will need Pigments to make Inks, Inks are needed to create Glyphs.
Every inscription recipe needs some kind of Ink, so if you want to level Inscription, it's the best combined with Herbalism. Take a look at my Herbalism leveling guide if you want to level Herbalism.
Two Glyph types
Major
- These glyphs are designed to directly enhance core abilities you will use for your chosen specialization. These enhancements are things like increased range, increased damage, larger radius for AoEs, longer duration emergency buffs, increased threat generation, reduced resource costs of core abilities, etc.
Minor
- These glyphs are typically fluff enhancements, commonly referred to as "quality of life" enhancements by the designers. They will do things like remove reagent costs, reduce resource costs of buffs, increase buff durations, etc.
Unlocking Glyph Slots
The levels in which you unlock glyph slots:
- Level 25 - 1 Major, 1 Minor
- Level 50 - 1 Major, 1 Minor
- Level 75 - 1 Major, 1 Minor.
Removing Glyphs
Players will need a special reagent to remove a glyph from their active set. Players below level 81 will be able to use Vanishing Powder, while players 81 and above will have to use Dust of Disappearance.
